IRIMETER-2

IRIMETER-2

IRIMETER-2 is an automatic vehicle mounted system for International Roughness Index (IRI) measuring on the roads with different pavement surfaces.

IRIMETER-2 consists of the following separate units:
•    control unit with graphic LCD
•    one or two wireless inertial sensors
•    roof mounted GPS antenna

The inertial sensors are mounted to MacPherson type front suspension of the vehicle. Sensors measure the acceleration of the wheel and calculate IRI values. The sensors are wireless, which eliminates the need for cabling.

Measuring data can be transferred to a PC through USB connection. The included computer software enables the user to view the data on graphs, tables and maps. Measurement reports can be created as Excel and .csv files.

Distance and speed are measured using an integrated high accuracy GPS module. The GPS module includes an inertial measurement unit so that the speed and coordinates are measured even if there is short loss of GPS signal, for example driving through a short tunnel. Measuring results that are equipped with coordinates can be viewed on an interactive map.
IRI is measured on the wheel tracks, either only on the right track or on both, i.e. right and left tracks. The system can be installed on different vehicles, including cars, vans, minibuses, whereas the exterior appearance of the vehicle is not affected. The system is maintenance free and does not interfere the normal usage of the vehicle.

 TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
•    The average IRI is calculated for every 5, 20, 25 or 100 m road section.
•    GPS coordinates are saved in each measuring point (accuracy ±2,5 m).
•    The control unit memory saves the measuring data for at least 15 000 km long road. Each test is equipped with date and time.
•    Wireless inertial sensor battery life: 300 000 km (@ 50 km/h) or at least 10 years.
•    Vehicle speed range when measuring:  20-100 km/h.
•    Road wetness, texture color and reflectivity have no effect on IRI measurements.
•    Sensor and GPS antenna ingress protection level: IP 67
